Embarking on a safari to Mikumi National Park from Zanzibar offers the perfect balance between adventure, culture, and convenience. Unlike longer and more remote safaris, Mikumi is one of the most accessible parks from Zanzibar, making it ideal for those who want an authentic wildlife experience without spending too many days traveling.
Accessibility
From Zanzibar, a short ferry or flight to Dar es Salaam followed by a scenic drive brings you directly to Mikumi. This makes it possible to enjoy a true safari adventure within just a few days.
Big Game Viewing
Mikumi is often called the “mini Serengeti” thanks to its open savannahs and abundance of wildlife. Expect to see elephants, lions, giraffes, buffalos, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, and even leopards. Bird enthusiasts will also find Mikumi a paradise with over 400 species recorded.
Scenic Landscapes
The park is framed by the Uluguru Mountains and the Rubeho Hills, giving every game drive a breathtaking backdrop. Wide plains dotted with acacia trees create the perfect safari atmosphere.
Cultural Experience
Your trip isn’t just about animals. A visit to a local Maasai village allows you to experience traditional dances, rituals, and everyday life of one of Africa’s most iconic tribes — a highlight that makes this safari unique.
